Support Team for Education in Primary and Secondary (STEPS)

 

Would you like to lead, inspire and develop inclusive practice for pupils with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties across Greenwich schools? 

 

STEPS is a well‑established inclusion service supporting primary and secondary schools across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We work closely with pupils, families and school staff to promote understanding, acceptance and effective support for learners with dyslexia and learning difficulties in mainstream settings. 

 

STEPS forms part of the SEND Outreach Services, which consist of four established and highly regarded teams: STEPS, the Early Years Inclusion Service, Autism Outreach, and the Sensory Service. This provides rich opportunities for joint working, shared professional learning and collaborative problem‑solving to support inclusive practice across the borough.

 

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Dyslexia Teacher to join our leadership team and help drive high-quality inclusive practice across the borough

 

About the role

 

This is a senior, outward-facing role combining specialist teaching, assessment and leadership.  You will:

  • Lead and model excellent specialist dyslexia teaching across mainstream school settings 
  • Carry out and oversee diagnostic assessment and reporting, including assessments for access arrangements 
  • Support the development of inclusive practice through training, INSET and outreach work with schools 
  • Work closely with the STEPS Team Leader on the strategic development of the service 
  • Line manage, mentor and support dyslexia teachers and assessors, contributing to induction and professional development 
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, families and other professionals to improve outcomes for pupils with SpLD

You will also have a key role in developing specialist practice across STEPS, including the use of assistive technology and contributing to borough-wide initiatives that promote inclusion and raise attainment. 

 

About you

 

You will be: 

  • A qualified teacher (QTS) with a Level 7 SpLD qualification (or equivalent)
  • An experienced practitioner with a strong track record in specialist dyslexia teaching and assessment
  • Confident leading and supporting others, and passionate about developing inclusive practice
  • Committed to improving outcomes for pupils with SpLD through collaboration, training and reflective practice
  • Knowledgeable about access arrangements and current guidance, with experience across primary and secondary phases
