This is an exciting opportunity to play a role in shaping the Council’s ambitions for our future transport network, delivering improvements to two high profile river crossings- Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels.

To be successful in this post you will be comfortable with preparing/reviewing engineering drawings, creating briefs and contract management and have a strong understanding of how lifts work and operate. You will need to bring energy, tenacity and strong communication skills. You will thrive on data and evaluation to evidence and inform delivery and service improvements.

About the Role

This Principal Lift Engineer role will provide senior-level responsibility for the delivery of improvements to Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels for the Borough.

You will work closely with officers in the Highways, Regeneration and Repairs and Investment, which may include working on joint projects and/or matrix management approaches.

The postholder will need to manage consultancy and contracting staff. The post holder will report to the Public Realm Infrastructure Manager as well as other strategic members of the division.

The postholder will prepare engineering drawings as well as project programmes and act as Client or Principal Designer on relevant elements. This will include procuring contractors/consultants, preparing health and safety information, managing finances and completing project management documentation.

This role is a Fixed-Term contract for 2 years.

About You

We’re looking for a strong candidate with a strong level of engineering in relation to lifts, alongside someone with good project and contract management skills. The candidate will need to be a team player with energy and a strong commitment to openness and treating people consistently, fairly and with respect.

You must be able to understand issues relating to local government governance and processes.
