Housing Benefit Outreach Officer

Job Introduction

Are you experienced in benefits and passionate about supporting vulnerable residents?

We’re looking for a Housing Benefit Outreach Officer to join our Temporary Accommodation team, working directly with residents to ensure they access the financial support they’re entitled to and sustain their housing.

The role

You will support residents living in temporary accommodation by:

  • Completing Housing Benefit applications at sign-up and through home visits
  • Gathering evidence in line with the Verification Framework
  • Identifying entitlement to additional benefits and helping residents make claims
  • Maximising income for residents and the Council
  • Working closely with Housing Needs, Income and Advice teams
  • Maintaining accurate case records and providing updates

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in a benefits, housing or advice role
  • Strong understanding of Housing Benefit and welfare support
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients
  • Confident communicator who can explain complex information clearly
  • Organised and able to manage a busy caseload
  • Willing to carry out home visits
