We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Technical Officer to join our Private Rented Sector Housing Regulation and Fire Safety Team. This is a great role for someone who is practical, motivated, and enjoys taking ownership of their work while making a real difference to residents’ lives.
You will support the team’s routine work across the private rented sector, including enforcement action against rogue landlords, addressing poor housing conditions, property licensing, energy efficiency, and fire safety. The role involves managing your own caseload and contributing to improving housing standards across the borough.
As part of this role, you will carry out inspections of private rented properties, undertake HHSRS assessments, identify housing defects and required repairs, serve statutory correspondence. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all case records are accurate and kept up to date using the council’s digital systems.
You will need a good working knowledge of private sector housing enforcement, common housing defects, and repair standards. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience of working in private sector housing or in a similar regulatory or compliance-based role.
You will be supported day to day by Senior Officers and a Team Manager and will have opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge through both internal and external training. This includes access to CPD opportunities and payment of a relevant professional subscription.
As part of the Our Greenwich plan, we are committed to ensuring that private sector landlords provide safe, well-managed, and decent accommodation.
You will be joining a team whose focus is on making sure people in Greenwich have access to housing that is safe, secure, and meets their needs, while delivering a high-quality service every day.
The successful candidate will be appointed at Grade SO2. The role also offers flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working, to help support a good work-life balance.
