Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Grade: Scale 2 – Scale 3 (depends on experience)

Salary: £28,617 – £29,436 Pro Rata Term Time Only

Working Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

Start Date: 1st June 2026

Closing Date: Friday 1st May 2026 (12 noon)

Interviews: Friday 8th May 2026

This is a fixed term contract till 31st August 2027.

Purpose of Job:

  • To work with the Class Teachers/Line Manager to support outstanding progress for all pupils.
  • To follow the school’s behaviour policy to promote excellent learning behaviours for all pupils.
  • To support Class Teachers/Lane Manager to ensure classroom environments provide outstanding support for all pupils.
  • To support Class Teachers/Lane Manager to ensure high quality resources are available for all learners.
  • Supporting pupils identified on Special Educational Needs register as required.

We Are Looking for a Candidate Who:

  • Has experience working in a primary school setting
  • Holds a recognised TA qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3)
  • Is committed to the holistic development of every child
  • Demonstrates initiative, reliability, and strong teamwork skills
  • Is supportive of the Christian values and ethos of our school
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills

About the Role

Bishop John Robinson CofE Primary School is seeking a caring, committed, and enthusiastic SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with complex needs in our inclusive and nurturing primary school environment. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about making a real difference in a child’s learning journey.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored support for a pupil with a range of complex learning and developmental needs. This may include communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, medical support, and behaviour linked to their individual profile.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a child with complex needs, ensuring access to the curriculum and full participation in school life
  • Implement individual learning and care plans under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
  • Support the child with learning, communication and Language, sensory and social and emotional needs as required
  • Monitor progress and keep accurate records in line with school and SEND protocols
  • Collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies
  • Promote a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children with SEND, particularly those with complex needs (desired but not essential)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to meet individual needs
  • The ability to follow direction and also use initiative
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent are desirable
