Senior Temporary Accommodation Officer

Job Introduction

Senior Temporary Accommodation Officer – PO3

The role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Temporary Accommodation Service.

This is a key frontline management role, leading and supporting a team responsible for providing an effective temporary accommodation service to households experiencing homelessness.

You will oversee the day-to-day work of Temporary Accommodation Officers, providing supervision, guidance and casework support while ensuring workloads are effectively prioritised and high standards of service are maintained.

The role will involve monitoring individual and team performance, supporting staff development and providing guidance on complex tenancy and temporary accommodation matters. You will also review requests for temporary accommodation and ensure that risks associated with customers are properly assessed, managed and shared appropriately.

Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you will help coordinate support for vulnerable households, attend and arrange case conferences and support planning meetings, and ensure customers receive accurate advice about temporary accommodation, homelessness and related housing services.

You will also support the Temporary Accommodation Manager with the procurement of suitable temporary accommodation, the handback of properties no longer required and the implementation of changes arising from legislation, policy and best practice.

The role includes home visits where required and participation in the Council's out-of-hours emergency arrangements.

About you

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of homelessness and temporary accommodation legislation.
  • Extensive experience of providing frontline services to the public.
  • Experience of managing, supervising and supporting staff in a busy customer-focused service.
  • The ability to manage and monitor workloads and maintain high standards of service delivery.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to analyse information, identify risks and find practical solutions.
  • The ability to provide guidance and oversight on complex or high-risk cases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with internal services, external agencies and other professionals.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and appropriate information sharing.
  • The ability to monitor performance, address underperformance and support staff development.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy and varied working environment.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, fair and customer-focused services.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced housing professional who is ready to take on greater responsibility and play an important role in the delivery and development of our Temporary Accommodation Service.
