Housing Occupational Therapist

Job Introduction

Disability & Home Improvement Team

Housing and Safer Communities

Housing Occupational Therapist x 1 – PO4 (35 hrs/week) 24 month fixed term contract

An opportunity has arisen for an occupational therapist to join the Housing Occupational Therapy Team, located within the multi-disciplinary Royal Greenwich Disability and Home Improvement Team. The Housing Occupational Therapy Team takes a multifactorial approach to maximising the availability of accessible housing to residents of the Royal Borough who have an identified need for it.

This busy, rewarding and varied role will suit applicants who have a strong commitment to the delivery of high-quality services to residents and an understanding of housing problems faced by people with health and disability issues.

You will need to be registered to practise as an occupational therapist with the UK Health and Care Professions Council.

We are seeking candidates who have a background of undertaking thorough occupational therapy assessments, and using highly effective communication skills and activity analysis, with an understanding of health and disability issues and of environmental adaptation. The role requires taking a proactive problem-solving approach to access and independence issues, informed by an understanding of the Social Model of Disability and Inclusive Design principles. The successful candidate will be familiar with English building regulations Approved Document M: Access to and use of buildings, and experience of working with ADM requirements. Experience of reading and analysing plans is highly desirable for this role. The successful candidate will also be able to work both independently and with others towards positive outcomes for residents in housing need.

An ability to understand and apply relevant legislation and to maintain professional standards is also essential. The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to take ownership of their caseload as well as arising resident issues and see these through to completion in appropriate time frames.
