HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT – ADVERT

Contract: Part time 32.5 hours per week, Term Time Only 39 weeks, 1 Year Fixed term  

Salary Grade/Range: Scale 5 Full Time Equivalent £32,535 - £33,987 - Actual from £26,335, pay award pending

Required October 2026 

We are looking to appoint an experienced, committed and enthusiastic HLTA to join our highly organised and supportive team. This role will involve covering classes across the school from Reception to Year 6 during teachers’ PPA and release time, leading interventions and providing targeted support for pupils, including those with SEND. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a curriculum specialism and would enjoy planning and teaching lessons and developing enrichment opportunities in one of the following areas: 

  • PE 
  • Music
  • Art & DT 
  • French 
  • Latin 

When not covering classes, the successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the SENDCo to deliver interventions, support pupils 1:1 or in small groups and contribute to high quality inclusive provision across the school. 

Christ Church is an over-subscribed school, which has an excellent reputation locally. The school is situated on the edge of Oxleas Woods on Shooters Hill. The school was inspected by Ofsted in November 2023 and rated as ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ personal development.

We are looking for a person who: 

  • Has GCSE level C or equivalent or higher in English and Maths; 
  • Holds HLTA status or has relevant experience of covering whole classes 
  • Has experience of working across the primary age range, including EYFS and KS1/KS2 
  • Can deliver engaging and well-structured learning activities 
  • Has strong behaviour management and organisational skills 
  • Is committed to inclusive practice and supporting pupils with SEND 
  • Has a passion for a curriculum area such as PE, Music, Art & DT, French or Latin 
  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates well with pupils, staff and parents 
  • Is enthusiastic about contributing to the wider life of the school 
  • Is interested in making a personal contribution to the life of the school and to the welfare of pupils
