As part of our drive toward net zero emissions and digital transformation, we’re looking for an Electric Vehicle Charging and New Technologies Officer to lead on the delivery of EV charging infrastructure and wider future technology projects. 

 

Our aim is to influence how we deliver modern public services — from EV charging and cross-pavement solutions to smart city innovations such as central management systems, solar energy integration, 5G small cells, and intelligent monitoring networks. 

 

About the Role:  

 

The postholder will report to the Street Lighting Manager and will primarily lead on and undertake the planning, implementation and delivery of our Electric Vehicle Charging Point Strategy and will include planning and implementation of Cross Pavement Charging solutions.  

 

The postholder will lead on and undertake the design, implementation and delivery of our Electric Vehicle Charging Point Strategy. You will gather data on current EV charging technologies and provide technical advice and expertise to support the design and program for installation of EV Charging points on the Highway and within council owned assets. The successful candidate will also prepare estimates of costs and outline project plans relating to installation of EV Charging points on the Highway, other council departments and proposed new developments.  

You will be the main point of contact with a range of stakeholder and internal clients and will manage/supervise contractors and appointed EV Charge Point Operators.  

 

As well as the EV Strategy, the postholder will also lead on the Council’s climate energy commitments in relation to Street Lighting to continuously monitor and evaluate advancements in relevant technologies such as Central Management Systems, Solar energy systems , including integration of multi-functionable technologies such as 5G Small Cells, Councils Parking enforcement cameras, MET Police cameras and third-party environmental monitoring equipment to support borough-wide smart infrastructure objectives and to generate potential revenue opportunities to enhance performance, efficiency and public value  

 

About You:  

 

We’re looking for someone who can combine excellent technical knowledge with strategic thinking and communication skills. Ideally, you will have: 

 

A background in electrical engineering, smart infrastructure, or transport technology, with current industry knowledge. 

 

Experience delivering EV charging or related energy/technology projects from concept to completion. 

 

Understanding of cross-pavement charging, grid connections, and smart charging solutions. 

 

Awareness of UK regulations, IET code of practice, and compliance requirements for EV equipment installations. 

 

An understanding of existing and emerging technologies in relation to energy saving solutions including CMS, Solar & Wind or hybrid systems.  

 

Strong project management skills — able to juggle multiple schemes, budgets, and timelines simultaneously. 

 

The ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, suppliers, and residents, translating complex technical information into clear decisions.
